The new Czech brand CULTO made it to the semi-finals of the prestigious startup competition Idea of the Year 2025. The jury was impressed by the first modular furniture kit made of lightweight concrete, which combines technology, design and sustainability.
CULTO has developed its own lightweight concrete formula with over 80% secondary raw materials and a unique mechanical joint that allows for “dry” assembly without tools. This creates furniture that is strong, repeatedly dismountable and also available for e-commerce.
"For us, the Idea of the Year is not just a competition, but a confirmation that our idea makes sense outside the design community. CULTO does not want to remain a Czech rarity - we are building a brand that can stand on the European market and show that smart design from the Czech Republic has global potential," says Jana Hejnicová, co-founder of CULTO.
"We respect concrete precisely because it doesn't play tricks on anyone. It is strong, durable and timeless. Our goal is to show that it can also function in a refined way indoors - light, modular and playful," adds Michal Brach, co-founder and designer of the brand.
The first public premiere of CULTO will take place at Designblok 2025, where the brand will present a limited edition and an installation presentation designed by designer Petr Hák.
CULTO is betting on direct online sales and a digital configurator that will allow customers to assemble their own furniture - from dimensions to colors. Expansion is planned from 2027, when the brand will open a showroom in Prague and prepare to enter European markets.
